WhatsApp to stop running on millions of phone by the end of 2016

whatsapMillions of users might have to upgrade their phones if they want to continue using WhatsApp. WhatsApp is among the most popular messaging apps which has more than a billion users. But a recent report says that WhatsApp will be phasing out compatibility with older phones as they change their technology.

The WhatsApp Company has set end of 2016 as a deadline. By the end of the time, many old services will not be supported.

A spokesperson for WhatsApp said, ‘While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.’

The messaging app will stop working on iPhone devices running iOS 6 which means any iPhone 4, 4S, or 5 which has not updated the newest version of OS will not support WhatsApp.

For Android devices on the other hand phones and tablets running Android 2.1 or 2.2 will not be supporting WhatsApp from the end of 2016. That means that Android phones released between 2010 and 2011 will not be supporting the app.

The company said, ‘As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use.’

So, if you are using any mobile device as mentioned above, you might have to upgrade your phone if you want to use WhatsApp.
