Nepal Telecom VoLTE, Activation, Supportive Phones

Nepal Telecom, a state-owned telecom company, has started testing the Voice over LTE service based on Forge from Monday. The company has launched such service for the first time in Nepal on Monday the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. With the availability of this service, the company has stated that the high quality (HD) voice on Forge mobile, easy access to the network with dialing and more quality in the service can be felt.

What is VoLTE ?

VoLTE stands for voice over LTE (Voice over Long-Term Evolution) and it’s more or less exactly what it says on the tin. VoLTE allows voice calls over a 4G LTE network, rather than the 2G or 3G connections which are usually used.
Nepal Telecom’s VoLTE will delivers high quality sound over voice calls (HD Voice Quality calls) across the NT 4G Network. With VoLTE we can experience ultra-clear voice quality with reduced background noise. NTC also claims conversations will sound more natural, almost as if the person at the other end of the phone call is right next to you.

• It’s also theoretically possible to make video calls over 4G, much like a Skype , Viber, Facebook call, except you’d just use your mobile number and be able to use the regular dialler and call interface, so you can make and receive video calls from anyone else with VoLTE, rather than relying on separate accounts.

Is NTC VoLTE available in my Area?

If you are currently using LTE service from Nepal Telecom, you can also experience VoLTE at your location.
VoLTE is available on all area currently having 4G network coverage

How to activate LTE/VoLTE on my SIM and mobile device?

Dial *444#
Select 2. Activate VoLTE
(This will activate VoLTE in your SIM)

If you have not activated LTE yet
Select 1. Aactivate 4G (then activate VoLTE)

Enable VoLTE setting in your mobile device
(This will activate VoLTE in your mobile device)

How will I know if I am on VoLTE service or not?

For Android users: The “HD/VoLTE” icon will be shown on the top bar of the screen
Also, you can dial *111# to verify if you are on VoLTE.
You will also get 100 minutes FREE VoLTE voice calls which will valid for 28 days.
For Iphone users: I found Volte will be activated but while calling, network will down to 3G or 2G so currently not supporting properly on Iphones.

How do I use VoLTE?

To enjoy VoLTE services, you need to:
Have a VoLTE enabled handset (A complete list of the supported devices can be found in the “4G VoLTE compatible Handsets”section of this page)

• Ensure that your handset has been upgraded with the latest software provided by your handset manufacturer
• Ensure that you are using NT 4G SIM
• Verify that the VoLTE voice calling feature has been enabled on your smartphone
  • For Android: Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Turn on VoLTE call.
    ^*These settings may differ from one handset model to another depending on the handset manufacturer.
• For users with Dual SIM handsets, NT4G SIM should be inserted in the SIM slot with data capability and network mode as “4G/3G/2G (Auto)”.

How to deactivate Nepal Telecom VoLTE?

VoLTE is way better than just a 4G service since you can enjoy both voice call and data surfing at a time. However, if you do not want to use and having mind to use it in future deactivate VoLTE service, all you need to do is again dial *444# on your phone and then select “Deactivate VoLTE”. It will be deactivated then.
